A Cut Above Tree Service Website Redesign & SEO

Project Overview

Gerry came to us because his current website wasn’t ranking in Google search results and his site was not working to drive him business. In looking at his site, we noticed the limited amount of information about the services he provided and suggested we add more detailed content that could be indexed by Google. Additionally, we suggested adding images of his equipment and crew to demonstrate their capabilities to potential customers arriving at his site. The final step was to ensure that his business was correctly listed in local listings such as Yelp and the yellow pages.

SEO Challenges

One thing we always check before starting any project is analytics data, whether it be Google analytics or another solution such as Piwik. We also like to look at the console in Google webmaster tools to get a better idea of how a site is performing. Sometimes these are never setup for our clients but in this case they were up and running. Once we got access however, we noticed that the previous developer had never submitted a site map to Google. A sitemap is the starting point for SEO because it helps Google know your site exists. It would seem we had some work to do. Within a few weeks of adding a sitemap (actually, the previous developer added it on the day we requested access to cover their tracks) A Cut Above Tree Service began showing up in local search results.

The previous developer we worked with to get access noted in an email to our client how one of their value added services was adding their business to local listings. One look at Yelp however showed that they never followed through on that promise or possibly, failed to do so.  Gerry’s business had not been verified and had two separate and partially incorrect Yelp listings.  We set to work straightaway to resolve the duplicate yelp listing and verifying ownership. I point out the other developers fails not to boast (they were very good to work with) but rather to help you understand questions you need to be asking your developer during the design process.

SEO is an ongoing process and that is the case with this project.  The initial results of our efforts have been promising and we will continue to monitor the site and make adjustments as necessary to ensure that A Cut Above continues to rise in search rankings.
